About Rachel

Ekstrand PTA 2_edited_edited_edited.jpg

Rachel Bratakos was born and raised in San Dimas. She grew up within the community accompanying her parents who were, and continue to be active city volunteers, to numerous San Dimas events. She attended our local Bonita Unified Schools often participating in school government and community service roles. After graduating from San Dimas High School, she continued her education at Citrus Community College, eventually transferring to California State Fullerton and graduating with a degree in anthropology.

In 2018, as a single mother of two sons, Rachel accomplished one of her biggest goals. She purchased her home in the neighborhood near Pioneer Park, where she knew her sons could attend the best schools, have access to all of the resources San Dimas had to offer, and experience the childhood she dreamt for them. Her two sons, Logan and Luke, both attend Lone Hill Middle School, and have participated in San Dimas, Little League and parks and rec sports programs and activities throughout

their childhood.

Rachel enjoys a career in which she is able to actively help others. As a Realtor, She listens to the needs of her clients and guides them through the process of reaching their goals, whether that be a first time home buyer or a business owner, choosing a city in which to partner with and thrive. Rachel has been successful in helping people due to her honesty, negotiation skills, transparent communication, and compassion.

Endorsements

I have known Rachel for many years and I know how much she loves San Dimas. As a parent of two kids in our Bonita Unified School District and a proven leader in our community, Rachel brings a fresh voice to our city council. I am excited to see her advocate for inclusion and a strong relationship between our city and local schools. She will use her decades of volunteering with our schools and community to make sure the needs of all our residents are heard.

Alta Skinner, Past Board Member/ President La Verne San Dimas Educational Foundation

Mckinley CC  Board of Directors

Secretary of the Mt Sac Foundation Board of Directors

My business is by the new metro station and we need leaders who will promote our town to visitors while keeping our downtown safe. As a small business owner from a law enforcement family, Rachel is the right choice and will do just that.

Roxanne King Mendoza, Owner of San Dimas Burger Co

While on city council, I helped prevent overdevelopment and protected our environment so we could keep our small town feel. I always believed it is what made San Dimas special and different. Rachel is a worthy successor to that legacy and will do what is right.

Denis Bertone, Former City Councilmember

We raised our daughter Rachel to be kind, generous, and to serve. I am proud that she is running and embodies the best of those qualities and more. Rachel has a strong vision for what our community could be but more importantly has the ability to bring people together, listen to their ideas, and move us forward as one city.

Jeff Templeman, Former City Councilmember, School Board Member and Deputy Chief of Police

You can predict how successful a council member will be by studying their history. Rachel served successfully as part of the downtown specific plan committee, the Ekstrand Elementary PTA, and San Dimas / La Verne Soroptimists. I’m supporting Rachel because she is the most qualified candidate for city council.

Margie Green, past San Dimas Citizen of the Year and Retired Business Owner

I appreciate how involved Rachel is in our city. The best example of her community involvement I can think of happened recently. Even though she no longer has a child at Ekstrand, she still stopped by to volunteer. She didn't campaign. She volunteered. That is who she is. I think our city needs people who believe in service on our city council. I know as a council person, that she will be present and available to all of our community members. She is a nonpartisan builder of consensus and our city will be lucky to have her.

Derek Bahmanou, Bonita Unified School District Board Member

Rachel has great instincts and knows how to get the job done. She is just the kind of leader we need on our San DImas City Council. In Soroptimists (nonprofit for supporting young women), I could always count on Rachel to rise to the occasion when it mattered most. I know she’ll bring the same commitment to our city and I’m proud to endorse her.

Chris Ann Horsley, Bonita Unified School District School Board Vice- President

I served in the military and know a leader when I see one. Rachel knows what matters most to residents - keeping our community safe, supporting families that want to make San Dimas their home, and supporting our schools. I am voting for her because she cares about making sure that San Dimas is a great place to raise a family and is a welcoming place for everyone.

Anthony Porter, Community Volunteer and Activist

As a long time San Dimas residence and business owner, as well as a youth and senior citizen advocate, I am excited to endorse Rachel Bratakos for City Council. Rachel brings new energy and positive input on the issues that are important to us all such as public safety, youth programs, and senior citizen advocacy. Her long list of volunteer activities have shown her leadership and problem solving abilities and proven her commitment to making our community a better place.

Wally Nikowitz, past Citizen of Year, Outstanding Service to Youth Award Recipient, Little League Volunteer of the Year, past Chamber of Commerce President, and Senior Citizen Advocate
